What Is Fitness PILATES?

Fitness PILATES is a modern group exercise programme based on the original teachings of Joseph Pilates. Unlike traditional gym workouts, Fitness Pilates focuses on improving the way your body moves by addressing postural imbalances, strengthening the deep core muscles, increasing mobility and developing greater body awareness.

Each class incorporates controlled movements, breathing techniques and exercises designed to strengthen the entire body while promoting better alignment and movement patterns.

Fitness PILATES is:

  • Low impact and joint-friendly
  • Suitable for men and women of all ages
  • Adaptable for different fitness levels
  • Designed to improve posture and movement quality
  • An excellent complement to other sports and exercise programmes

What are the benefits of Fitness PILATES?

Regular participation in Fitness PILATES can help:

  • Improve Core Strength
  • Strengthen the deep abdominal muscles, pelvic floor and spinal stabilisers that support your spine and improve everyday movement.
  • Improve Posture
  • Address muscular imbalances that develop through modern lifestyles, prolonged sitting and repetitive movements.
  • Increase Flexibility & Mobility
  • Improve movement through the spine and major joints while maintaining strength and control.
  • Enhance Balance & Coordination
  • Develop greater body awareness and movement efficiency.
  • Support Back Health
  • Strengthening the muscles that support the spine can help improve posture and reduce the risk of future issues.
  • Improve Breathing & Wellbeing
  • Pilates breathing techniques can help promote relaxation, improve focus and support overall wellbeing.
  • Build Functional Strength
  • Fitness Pilates helps create a balanced, strong body that performs better both during exercise and everyday activities.

What Is the aim of Fitness PILATES?

The primary aim of Fitness PILATES is to identify and improve basic postural and movement imbalances through Pilates-based exercise and breathing techniques.

The programme is designed to:

  • Increase muscular balance and strength
  • Improve posture and movement quality
  • Develop core stability
  • Enhance flexibility and mobility
  • Improve functional movement for everyday life
  • Support physical and mental wellbeing

Is Fitness PILATES good for weight loss?

Fitness PILATES should not be viewed as a standalone weight-loss programme. Weight loss primarily comes from creating a calorie deficit through nutrition and overall activity levels. However, Fitness PILATES can be a valuable part of a healthy lifestyle because it helps improve movement quality, posture, mobility, strength and exercise performance. Many people find that Pilates complements their other exercise activities and helps them move more effectively during workouts and daily life.

Who can attend Fitness PILATES?

Our Fitness PILATES classes are suitable for:

  • Complete beginners
  • Returning exercisers
  • Intermediate participants
  • Active older adults
  • Individuals looking to improve posture and mobility
  • Anyone wanting a low-impact exercise option

Exercises are modified where necessary, allowing participants to work within their own capabilities and progress safely.

Important

Fitness PILATES is designed for generally healthy adults and is not a rehabilitation service. If you have a diagnosed musculoskeletal condition, significant injury or medical concern, you should seek advice from your GP, physiotherapist or healthcare professional before attending.

Many participants begin to notice improvements in posture, flexibility, mobility and body awareness within the first few weeks. Consistency is key, and attending regularly will produce the best results.

Some muscle fatigue is normal, particularly when starting Pilates or progressing to more advanced classes. However, exercises should never cause pain in your neck, back or joints.

I have lower back pain. Can I attend?

Many people find Pilates beneficial for developing strength and stability around the spine. However, you should always seek clearance from your healthcare professional before attending if you have a pre-existing back condition or injury.

Our regular Fitness Pilates classes are not suitable during pregnancy due to the modifications required. Postnatal participants may return following medical clearance after their postnatal check.
